We’ll be sending you regular updates during this extended closure to share any new information and to remind you about previous messages we don’t want you to have missed. Some updates will be shorter and some will be longer, but we’ll be staying in touch.

Even though our schools and offices are closed, our faculty and staff are still committed to working hard each day on behalf of every student and family.

What’s New

  • Planning for the reopening of Shaker Heights Schools in the fall 2020 is underway. In the coming weeks, we will share opportunities for community/parent input in our planning.

  • Building principals will be sharing information next week about plans for families to drop-off items to return to school and pick-up items students left at school.

  • On Thursday, Governor DeWine announced that beginning Tuesday, May 26, sports leagues in Ohio will be permitted to operate if these leagues can meet required safety protocols. This applies only to non-contact and limited-contact sports. The District is reviewing this announcement and awaiting further state guidance to determine next steps related to athletic programming and school-based athletic facilities.

Coming Up

  • In the coming days, the District will share a survey with families to gauge interest in Summer 2020 Jumpstart programming and to collect information on additional summer supports needed for students, including meals and technology. Jumpstart will offer online-only programming, as the District canceled in-building Summer Enrichment Learning and Fun (SELF) programming for summer 2020 last week.

Reminders

  • The last day of school for students in grades PreK-11 has been changed to Friday, May 29. Read the complete announcement here.
