Extended Closure Update | March 18, 2020

We’ll be sending you regular updates during this extended closure to share any new information and to remind you about previous messages we don’t want you to have missed. Some updates will be shorter and some will be longer, but we’ll be staying in touch.

Even though our schools and offices are closed, our faculty and staff are still committed to working hard each day on behalf of every student and family.

What’s New
  • Chromebook pickup for families with students in Grades K-4 will be at all elementary schools (all Fernway families will pick up at Woodbury) from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 19. Please review this information regarding Chromebook pickup for families with students in Grades K-4.
  • Students in Grades K-4 now have access to their student Gmail accounts and Google Meet at home. These Gmail accounts only may be used for teacher-to-student or student-to-student email messages. Students in Grades K-4 will not be able to receive or send emails beyond the shaker.org domain.

Coming Up

  • Given the evolving nature of the situation and because the extended closure period may last significantly longer than three weeks, the District is in the process of evaluating cancellation or postponement of upcoming District- and school-sponsored events and travel. These events include the Senior Prom, Commencement, Middle School trips to Detroit and Washington, D.C., Woodbury Sixth Grade Camp and others. We will share additional information as soon as it becomes available.

Reminders

  • The District will continue free breakfast and lunch pickup at 20 designated locations throughout the City on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20. Please review this Meal Distribution Plan and select the location/time which is most convenient for you and/or your student. If you are unable to pick up a meal, we encourage you to make arrangements for a neighbor or friend to pick up the meal for you.
  • ACT has rescheduled the April 4 test date to June 13 in response to concerns about the spread of coronavirus. Learn more on the ACT’s webpage, April 2020 Exam COVID-19.
  • Staff and families: Please send your pictures and short videos of what distance learning and working from home looks for you! Our Communications Team will post on social media. Send your pictures and short videos to [email protected].
