Chromebook Pick-up Information for Grades K-4 Families

March 18, 2020

Dear Shaker Heights Schools Kindergarten-4th grade Families,

Shaker Heights Schools families with a student in kindergarten through 4th grade who do not have a Chromebook or computer for student use at home may pick up a District-issued Chromebook on Thursday, March 19 from 3-7 p.m. at the student’s elementary school. All Fernway families will pick up Chromebooks at Woodbury. At pickup, you will be asked to provide your student’s name and you will be issued a Chromebook for student distance learning use during the extended closure period.

Please note, it is not necessary to have a District-issued device for each student in your home.  Students can share devices. Also, no student, regardless of age, should be on a device for the entire day.

Having a Chromebook, or similar device, at home provides a way for teachers to communicate with students and families and allows for some instructional activities to take place on the device. Keeping this in mind, we ask that you pick up a Chromebook only if there is a need. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we do our best to meet the needs of all of our students.

For families without home internet service, the District is also developing plans for internet hotspot distribution. We will share that information as soon as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Neal Robinson, Principal, Boulevard Elementary School
Chris Hayward, Principal, Fernway Elementary School
George Clark, Principal, Lomond Elementary School
J. Lindsay Florence, Principal, Mercer Elementary School
Eric Forman, Principal, Onaway Elementary School
