An Update on the District’s Extended School Closure Plan

Dear Shaker Schools Staff, Families and Students,

This morning, I visited all Shaker schools to check in with faculty, staff and students. Thank you to all of our staff, faculty and students for your hard work preparing for the upcoming closure period.

The Shaker Heights City School District will implement Level 1 of the extended school closure plan beginning Monday, March 16. All staff and faculty will report to schools on Monday to prepare for remote learning and instruction. On Tuesday, teachers will have a virtual professional day to complete and refine preparations. We will begin Level 2 of the extended closure plan on Wednesday, March 18.  With the help of our families and community, we intend to make sure our students continue to make academic progress and receive support during this time.

Beginning Wednesday, we will also be distributing free meals to students who need them. To assist our planning, we encourage you to complete this Free Breakfast and Lunch Request Form to let us know if you’d like a District-provided free breakfast and lunch for your PreK-12 student during the extended school closure. We are currently planning to provide meals March 18-21 and March 30-April 3.

During this closure, our Communications Department is planning to continue sending out regular updates. Please make sure we have your most recent information so you can receive all correspondence from the District. Main office phones at all buildings will be monitored during the school closure.

Finally, we have received many offers from our families with kind offers to help. We very much appreciate your thoughtfulness. Though Shaker Heights is a community known for reaching out and helping each other, at this time, we want our families to heed the governor’s guidance and practice social distancing as much as possible.

We thank you for your support during this unprecedented time and for the opportunity to continue to serve our students and staff. Please keep yourself and your family safe and healthy over this extended closure.

Sincerely,
Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent
Shaker Heights City School District
