Dear Shaker Heights Schools Families:

In response to the coronavirus outbreak, the Shaker Heights City School District will close all buildings for students after the end of the school day on Friday, March 13 for at least three weeks.

All staff and faculty will report to schools on Monday, March 16 for a professional day in order to prepare for remote learning and instruction during the extended closure. Please note, this information has been updated since my 4 p.m. phone call with all Shaker staff.

Today, Governor Mike DeWine ordered all public schools to close for an extended three-week period in order to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. Gov. DeWine also stated that state and local officials will reassess this time frame and extend the school closure if needed.

For the past week, District administrators and the Coronavirus Response Task Force have been developing a detailed multiple-leveled extended closure plan to support our students. Our draft closure plan includes information on instruction, virtual learning plans, student and staff expectations, distribution of meals for students who receive free or reduced meals and special education supports.

We will continue to refine the plan as additional information becomes available and we will share it with you through email and on shaker.org as soon as it is finalized.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Sincerely,
Dr. David Glasner, Superintendent
Shaker Heights City School District
