SHHS Athletic Department Re-Opening Limited Skills Training August 10

August 7, 2020—The Shaker Heights City School District and the Shaker Heights High School Athletic Department is planning to resume optional small-group skills training for High School student-athletes on Monday, August 10.

This return to Phase I of the Athletic Department’s opening protocol comes after careful consideration of Ohio Department of Health and Ohio High School Athletics Association guidance, as well as in consultation with partner districts within the Lake Erie League athletic conference.

Phase I skills sessions are available only to student-athletes and their coaches, and they are governed by strict protocols. Participants must wear masks, practice social distancing and will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms prior to working out. Spectators are not allowed.

“Our coaching staff is looking forward to bringing our student-athletics back for skills conditioning. We will continually monitor and assess these sessions, as well as local- and state-level guidance and will make any necessary adjustments to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff,” said Interim Athletic Director Michael Babinec.

The High School track and field are currently closed to community use. The District’s tennis courts are open for use. Singles play only is encouraged, and social distancing protocols are expected to be followed.
