Each Friday in the month of August, the District will send this 2020-21 School Year Update to keep you informed about plans for the upcoming school year.

  • Monday, August 31: First Day of School for Students

News 

  • Today, the District and the Shaker Heights High School Athletic Department announced plans to resume optional small-group skills training for High School student-athletes on Monday, August 10. Read more

  • On Thursday, August 6, the District announced that Shaker Heights High School Varsity Baseball Head Coach and English Teacher Michael Babinec has been named Interim Athletic Director. Mr. Babinec succeeds former Athletic Director Don Readance. Read more.  

Looking Ahead

  • Beginning Monday, August 10, the District will share a weekly Back-to-School Checklist to help families prepare for the first day of school on Monday, August 31. The Checklist will arrive via email on Monday August 10, 17 and 24 and will be posted to shaker.org and on social media. 

  • Also on Monday, the District will send an email to all families with information about completing the Annual Update for each of your Shaker Heights Schools students. The Annual Update ensures that the District has your most current email, phone and address, emergency contact information and more. 

  • All students in Grades 3-12 will be issued a District Chromebook that they may use throughout the school year. The District also will provide Chromebooks to students in Grades PreK-2 who do not have a dedicated learning device at home. We will share information on distribution plans when it becomes available. All students in Grades 6-12, as well as students who requested a District-issued device last spring, should keep their Chromebooks. If your Chromebook is in need of repair, review Chromebook Repair Drop-off and Pick-up.

  • The District is developing plans to distribute textbooks and other materials to students. Information about materials pick-up will be shared when it becomes available.

  • If you have questions about Special Education/IEPs/504 Plans for the upcoming year, please email your student’s case manager or Director of Exceptional Children Elizabeth Kimmel.
