We’ll be sending you regular updates during this extended closure to share any new information and to remind you about previous messages we don’t want you to have missed. Some updates will be shorter and some will be longer, but we’ll be staying in touch.

Even though our schools and offices are closed, our faculty and staff are still committed to working hard each day on behalf of every student and family.

What’s New

  • On Monday, Governor DeWine announced that schools would remain closed for the rest of the 2019-20 school year. The governor also stated that no decision has been made on whether schools will be open in the fall 2020. Watch all Gov. DeWine’s Covid-19 updates on The Ohio Channel.

  • On Tuesday, the District announced plans to hold a virtual commencement ceremony on June 3. On Thursday, Dr. Glasner shared this video message about commencement with the school community (you may also read the transcript). Also on Thursday, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) issued a statement on high school commencement ceremonies, recommending that all high schools hold “a virtual or alternate recognition on the original intended graduation date or a date very close to that date.” Read the complete statement here.

  • Shaker Heights Schools plans to decorate the community with love for the Class of 2020! All members of the Class of 2020 will receive a free yard sign delivered right to their home/yard that reads “Home of a Shaker Heights Senior.” Also, community members can show their support for our seniors by purchasing a special community yard sign that reads, “Shaker is proud of you, Class of 2020!” Signs are available for purchase via PayForIt and cost $5 each. Learn more about this fun, celebratory campaign here.

  • The District's Technology team shared "Tips for Improving Your Home Network," to help students and parents working online to maximize Wi-Fi performance and Internet speed at home.
