We’ll be sending you regular updates to share any new information and to remind you about previous messages we don’t want you to have missed. Some updates will be shorter and some will be longer, but we’ll be staying in touch.

This Update is being sent on Thursday in observance of the Shaker Heights City School District's summer hours Monday-Thursday.

What’s New
  • The District is pleased to announce that all school playgrounds are reopened. Playgrounds will be sanitized on a weekly basis, and residents are advised to use at your own risk. Please observe social distancing and small group size protocol. Additionally, the District has reopened tennis courts for use by the community. Singles play only is encouraged, and social distancing protocols are expected to be followed.
Coming Up
  • Shaker Jumpstart, the District’s summer distance-learning program, will be offered virtually Mondays through Thursdays beginning July 6 and concluding July 30. The program’s enrichment and learning website will offer a variety of resources for families with students at all grade levels, including book clubs for required summer reading for grades 7-12, college readiness webinars, cooking tutorials, mindfulness exercises and social-emotional supports. Additionally, students in grades K-8 will be able to sign up for pre-recorded lessons in Google Classrooms, which will feature two learning activities daily Monday through Thursday. The District will also offer targeted small-group interventions and instruction. Families will be contacted by a District representative if a student qualifies for these targeted interventions. For more information, go to shaker.org/summer.
Reminders
  • The Superintendent’s Summer Updates will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer. All sessions begin at 3 p.m. and last approximately 30 minutes on both Zoom and the District’s Facebook page. The Zoom link will be provided for the sessions on the shaker.org calendar each day. District families and staff may submit questions in advance for consideration to be discussed during the Updates. • Weekday and weekend breakfast and lunch delivery continues this summer for students on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 20 locations throughout the Shaker Heights City School District attendance zone. Distribution times and locations follow the District's Extended Closure Meal Distribution Plan.
  • Many Shaker families may be eligible to participate in the Pandemic – Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) Program, which provides additional money for families to buy food due to COVID-19 related school closures. Families with children who receive free or reduced-price school meals under the National School Lunch Program will receive P-EBT funds. For information, click here.
  • The District is offering online enrollment for the 2020-21 academic year. Parents and guardians may submit required forms electronically by computer or mobile phone. Learn about online enrollment.
