We’ll be sending you regular updates during this extended closure to share any new information and to remind you about previous messages we don’t want you to have missed. Some updates will be shorter and some will be longer, but we’ll be staying in touch.

Even though our schools and offices are closed, our faculty and staff are still committed to working hard each day on behalf of every student and family.

What’s New
  • Shaker Heights Schools Superintendent, Dr. David Glasner, will launch a series of virtual updates for the school community beginning next week. These regular sessions will focus on the District’s planning and implementation of summer programs and re-entry into the 2020-2021 school year. The Superintendent’s Summer Updates will begin the week of June 15 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. After that, the updates will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer. All sessions will begin at 3 p.m. and will last approximately 30 minutes on both Zoom and the District’s Facebook page. The Zoom link will be provided for the sessions on the shaker.org calendar each day prior to 3 p.m. District families and staff may submit questions in advance here for consideration to be discussed during the Updates.
  • Nearly 1,200 people participated in the District’s Fall Re-Entry Survey. Families may read the summary of the data findings here. This information, along with guidance from the Ohio Department of Education and the Governor’s Office, will assist the District in developing and implementing a re-entry plan that respects the health and safety of our students and staff and that meets the needs of our students and families. Additionally, the District will release a separate survey to faculty and staff today.
  • The District has reopened its tennis courts for use by the community. Singles play only is encouraged, and social distancing protocols are expected to be followed.
Coming Up
  • Student athletes and their coaches will be able to access school athletic facilities for limited skills training beginning Monday, June 15, 2020, as a part of a phased opening timeline and plan. Developed by the Athletic Department, this plan was created to ensure the health and safety of our student athletes, their coaches and spectators. Opening limited facilities, such as the stadium, will allow our student athletes to work on their preseason conditioning and skills. These sessions will be available only to student athletes and their coaches. Spectators are discouraged. The sessions will be governed by strict protocols to ensure the health and safety of all participants. Participants must wear masks, practice social distancing and will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms prior to working out. The District will evaluate these sessions before deciding whether to reopen other outdoor and indoor facilities, such as the weight room and gymnasiums.
  • The District is also working with the City of Shaker Heights to evaluate the possible use of District athletic facilities for Shaker Heights Recreation Department and community use. Additionally, the District is also in the process of evaluating when we can open our playgrounds in a safe and healthful way.
