Shaker Heights Board of Education Provides Testimony Against Ohio House Bill 99

June 1, 2022—The Shaker Heights Board of Education submitted testimony to the Ohio State Legislature calling on legislators to oppose Ohio House Bill 99, which would allow teachers and staff to carry a firearm on school grounds, while also significantly reducing the amount of required training hours.

The current requirement for anyone to carry a firearm on school grounds is 700 hours of peace officer training. If passed in the Ohio Senate, House Bill 99 would change that requirement to just 20 hours of training. The Senate is expected to vote on HB99 on June 1 at 1:30 p.m.
