Hello everyone and welcome back!

I’m Superintendent Dr. David Glasner. Happy New Year!  I hope that you have enjoyed a restful and enjoyable winter break with your family and friends.

All of us in the Shaker Heights Schools are looking forward to welcoming students back to school tomorrow morning.

We are prepared for a great second half of the school year!

Next week, the district, the city of Shaker Heights, the Shaker Heights Public Library and other community partners, are proud to present Dr. King's Vision of the Beloved Community: Opportunities and Challenges for Shaker Heights Moving Forward Together, this is a series of multiple events and activities from January 12 through January 16. You can find more information at shaker.org/mlk.

Next week, I also invite you to join us for our next Board of Education work session that will focus on the creation of a long-term, master facilities plan. The meeting will take place on Monday, January 9 at 5:00 p.m. and you can watch the meeting in person or via livestream.

During Spring Break this year, our marching band will be embarking on an exciting tour of France, once again sharing Shaker’s musical excellence with the rest of the world!

Later this spring, our fourth and eighth grade students will also be presenting their IB Exhibition and Community Project action research projects. These are great examples of how our students apply their learning towards helping make our community a better place.

And don’t forget – a Night for the Red & White will take place this year March 18 at the Hilton Cleveland Downtown. This year’s event will focus on the theme “Excellence is Inclusive: Providing Opportunities for all Shaker Students.” Funds raised will remove barriers and support inclusivity for a wide range of student experiences inside and outside of the classroom.

As you can tell, there are a lot of great things going on at Shaker Heights Schools. In the coming weeks, all of our families will be receiving the annual Measuring What Matters publication in the mail, which highlights these and many other student accomplishments.

I want to thank you for your support of the Shaker Heights City School District. It is an honor to serve in this special community and I am looking forward to a great 2023!
