Biometric Scanning
Shaker Heights Schools is introducing biometric scanning as a secure and convenient way for students to access school meal accounts.
In partnership with identiMetrics, this technology eliminates the need for PINs or ID cards and helps keep lunch lines moving smoothly.
Here’s How It Works:
Students will scan a fingertip at the register using a secure biometric scanner. This scanner does not store fingerprints—instead, it converts the fingertip scan into a unique numerical code that can’t be reverse-engineered.
Why the Change?:
- Faster transactions and shorter lunch lines
- Fewer lost or stolen ID cards
- Greater accuracy and security in student identification
- Protection of student data using FERPA-compliant practices
Your Student’s Privacy is Protected
We take data privacy seriously. The identiMetrics system:
- Does not store fingerprint images
- Uses a one-way mathematical algorithm to create encrypted templates
- Complies with all applicable federal and state student data privacy laws
