School Meals
Menus
With AVI Foodsystems as a partner, Shaker Heights Schools is able to provide students with more than just a delicious and nutritious breakfast and lunch.
With a strong culinary approach to programs and menus, AVI remains committed to offering students wholesome, nutrient-dense foods that taste great. AVI emphasize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean meats, while limiting sodium, unhealthy fats and added sugar. The meal service program also promotes scratch-cooking where possible and encourages variety and nutritional balance in each menu.
AVI's full- and part-time employees prepare an average 371,000 meals each year throughout the District's school buildings. Using input from student surveys and everyday lunchroom conversations, the skilled AVI chefs and dietitians design the school menus with a wide variety of healthy food options and bold flavors.

Free & Reduced-Price Meals
Shaker Heights Schools encourages all families to submit an application for free- or reduced-price meal eligibility regardless of family income. The percentage of students qualifying for meals is a data point utilized by the federal government to provide the District with certain funds that benefit all students. There is no application deadline; families may apply at any time. One application must be completed for each household each school year. All applications are confidential.
If you have additional questions about Free/Reduced-Price Meals or if you need help with the application process, contact Deirdre Storms, 216-295-5593.
