New Biometric Scanning for Meal Payments Coming to Shaker Heights Schools

The Shaker Heights City School District is excited to share that starting this school year, Shaker Heights Schools is rolling out a new, secure, and efficient way for students to access school meals: biometric scanning for meal payments.
In partnership with identiMetrics, this technology will streamline the lunch line. Students will simply scan a fingertip — using a non-invasive biometric reader — to access their meal account.
Please know that your child’s safety and privacy are our highest priorities. The biometric system does not store actual fingerprints. Instead, it creates a mathematical representation that cannot be reverse-engineered or used outside of our school system. This system is widely used in school districts across the country and is fully compliant with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other applicable laws.
We understand you may have questions or concerns. We invite you to visit our website for more information and a full FAQ: https://www.shaker.org/families/school-meals/biometric-scanning
Prefer not to participate?
Families may opt out of biometric scanning at any time. To do so, please contact Deirdre Storms at 216-295-5593. If leaving a message, please include your name, your student(s) name(s), grade and building.
We thank you for your partnership in helping us provide a safer, faster and more convenient meal experience for all students.
