Darrèl Smalls Appointed as District Safety & Security Supervisor Beginning July 1

Darrèl Smalls has been appointed as the next District Safety & Security Supervisor. He will begin his new role on July 1, succeeding Victor Ferrell, who is retiring.

He was most recently the safety coordinator at Lorain City School District. With almost 10 years of experience at Lorain, Mr. Smalls has served as a safety officer and student success coach, mentoring students and supporting their social-emotional needs.

“Mr. Smalls brings a unique and valuable perspective to this role,” said Superintendent Dr. David Glasner. “His experience in school safety, combined with his background in student mentorship, reflects our belief that creating safe schools also means supporting the well-being of our students. He understands that safety and wellness go hand in hand, and we are excited to welcome him to Shaker Heights Schools.”

Before joining Lorain, Mr. Smalls also previously held positions with Ohio Guidestone and InFocus of Cleveland. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo as well as a master’s in school counseling from Grand Canyon University.
