An Update on the Woodbury Renovation
- District News
As part of our Long-Term Master Facilities Plan, Woodbury was slated to open in Fall 2027 as the new Middle Years building for Grades 6-8. Renovations were expected to begin on Lomond and Mercer in June 2027, so Lomond and Mercer students would move to the current Middle School site on Shaker Boulevard as a swing space for one school year while their buildings were renovated.
Due to a number of factors, the District no longer expects that the Woodbury building will be ready to reopen as the new Middle Years building for the beginning of the 2027-2028 school year. Until Woodbury is complete, students will continue to learn in their existing buildings.
The timeline outlined in our Long-Term Master Facilities Plan was aggressive from the beginning. In addition, Gilbane Building Company has encountered several unexpected challenges during the demolition, abatement and foundation work that has taken place so far. Building a new school comes with many challenges, and it is more important to get it right than rush to the finish line.
The project leadership team is in ongoing conversations regarding an updated timeline for Woodbury and are also reviewing the elementary school renovation schedule. We will share more information on an expected opening date for Woodbury and any adjustments to elementary school renovation schedules as it becomes available.
The District continues to work closely with Gilbane, architects GPD Group and Robert P. Madison International, and our co-funding partner, the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, to navigate the implementation of the Long-Term Master Facilities Plan.
Please know that this process continues to evolve and information is subject to change. Community members may visit shaker.org/facilitiesplan for more information. Thank you for your continued partnership as we work to provide new facilities for our students.
