The Auditorium Campaign is the largest project undertaken by the Shaker Schools Foundation.
From 2002 to 2008, the Foundation collaborated with the School District by raising $1.2 million to support the $2.4-million capital improvements project that renovated the Small Auditorium and restored the Large Auditorium at Shaker Heights High School. Thanks to the generosity of donors to the Shaker Schools Foundation, both auditoriums again support the excellence of Shaker Heights High School’s academic and performing arts programs.
The High School was built in 1931. Over the years, both of its auditoriums became classrooms and were used on a daily basis by music and theater students, as well as by the entire school district for meetings and ceremonies. The refurbished auditoriums have been restored to their original beauty and feature state-of-the art equipment to enhance teaching and learning. The Small Auditorium reopened in November 2003, and the Large Auditorium, in February 2008.
The Shaker Heights City Schools, Shaker Schools Foundation, and City Architecture received a 2008 Ohio Historical Society award for the renovation and restoration of the Large Auditorium. This is the large auditorium’s first major renovation, and City Architecture served as the designer.
Contributions toward the campaign are still being gratefully accepted. Seat endowments can be used to honor students, teachers, and families.
