CSU Study Lauds Boulevard, Onaway as Top-Performing Schools
The annual Performance of Greater Cleveland Public and Charter Schools, In Context report from the Center for Urban Education at Cleveland State University identifies the top-performing elementary and high schools in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain and Medina counties. Shaker is proud to announce that Boulevard and Onaway elementary schools are included on the list this year.

Shaker’s inclusion on this list means that “it is doing the most among Greater Cleveland schools with the students it serves,” said Dr. Adam Voight, Director of the Center for Urban Education. “We consider your school’s inclusion on this list to be an important commendation of your efforts and success.”

CSU’s Center for Urban Education has found that some grades the Ohio State School Report Card, such as the Performance Index (PI), are not accurate measures of school performance. In fact, the Center finds that at least 80% of an Ohio school’s PI score is explained by factors that are out of a school’s control, such as students’ socioeconomic status and disabilities. The Center’s analysis uses a performance metric that adjusts for those factors.

“All of our elementary schools provide excellent educational opportunities for our students that are not always reflected on the Ohio State Schools Report Card,” said Superintendent David Glasner. “Congratulations to the Onaway and Boulevard schools for being included on this list and thank you to the Center for Urban Education for its work capturing the successes of many schools across Northeast Ohio.”
