SHHS A Cappella Mixed Choir and Vocal Ensemble Earns High Ratings at OMEA Contest
choir pictureMarch 14, 2019—On Friday, March 8, the Shaker Heights High School A Cappella Mixed Choir and Vocal Ensemble participated in the Ohio Music Education Association District Adjudicated Event at Kenston High School.

The choir earned the second highest overall rating of II (Excellent) with a notable rating of I (Superior) during the sightreading portion of the event. For sightreading, the choir learns and performs a new music selection with only five minutes of preparation time. Sightreading showcases the ensembles' ability to comprehend music notation, apply the written music to spoken and sung lyrics, evaluate and troubleshoot any issues quickly.

"Learning and performing unfamiliar material in five minutes is a challenging task," says Interim Superintendent Stephen M. Wilkins. "Congratulations to our choir and vocal ensemble on this achievement."
