SHTA Honored with Friend of Education Award

April 15, 2019—Last week, the Shaker Heights Teachers’ Association received the Ohio School Public Relations Association’s Friend of Education Award at OHSPRA’s Annual Achievement Awards in Columbus. SHTA president John Morris, along with fellow SHTA members Jackie Conway Scanlon and Darlene Garrison, received the recognition on behalf of their fellow members for their work in organizing the November 19, 2018 community candlelight vigil that honored beloved Woodbury teacher Aisha Fraser.

“SHTA acted with compassion, grace and strength in the face of a horrible tragedy,” said Scott Stephens, Executive Director of Communications and Public Relations for Shaker Heights Schools. “The vigil was a beautiful tribute to Ms. Fraser that was appreciated and attended by so many in our Shaker Heights Schools and broader community.”

The SHTA was one of only three recipients throughout the state for this year’s OHSPRA Friend of Education Award.
