UPDATE (1:40 p.m.): Fire crews still on scene at Fernway School
UPDATE: July 10, 2018 1:40 pm—The Shaker Heights Fire Department and assisting units from other communities are still at the scene of a major fire at Fernway Elementary School. The fire broke out on the roof of the school sometime after 11 a.m.  A small number of staff members were in the building and were evacuated safely. There were no classes or programs in session at the time. The District thanks Chief Sweeney and the entire SHFD for their tremendous work in bringing the fire under control. In the coming days, they will assess the damage. Likewise, District officials will assess the damage and formulate necessary contingency plans for the coming school year. The District will continue to keep the Fernway community, as well as our entire community, apprised.     
 
July 10, 2018—A fire broke out this morning at Fernway Elementary School. Everyone has been evacuated safely from the building. There are no students in the building. The Shaker Heights Fire Department is at the scene. The building will be closed until further notice.
