Raider XC teams both take 2nd at Avon Lake Early Bird Invitational
The Shaker Boys brought home their highest finish in recent memory at the Avon Lake Early Bird Invitational Saturday, finishing second in the thirteen team field.  Among the teams finishing behind them was Saint Vincent-St. Mary, the top ranked team in Ohio in Division II.  Leading the way for the Raiders was senior Matt Burnard who finished in second place overall with a time of 17:04.  He was followed closely behind by Vivek DiVakarla, David Carpenter, Ben Cox and DeAndre Hall.  Runners of the meet for the day were DiVakarla and sophomore Sam Morris, who finished the open race in 8th place with a time of 18:59.  Special mention goes to freshman Maclin Stupay, who took fifth place in the open.  The boys will be back in action next week at the Tiffin Carnival.

The Shaker Ladies cross country squad fell just short of continuing their streak of three straight championships at the Avon Lake Early Bird Invitational, finishing a strong second to St. Vincent-St. Mary.  Four Raiders finished in the top ten, with Hailey Stupay taking second, Avery Blaszak taking third, Juliet Tonkin finishing 8th, and Mia Compton-Engle coming in tenth.  Anna Carpenter rounded out the scoring with a strong 17th place finish.  Runners of the Meet are Carpenter and Esti Goldstein, who won the open race.  The girls will take a step up in competition next week at the Tiffin Carnival.  Go Raiders!
