Three Graduates are College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship Winners
June 7, 2017—The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has named Class of 2017 graduates Edie Duncan, Andrew Maytin and Nora Spadoni College-Sponsored Merit Scholarship winners. They are among this year's 3,200 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by US colleges and universities. Officials from sponsor colleges selected the winners from the Finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. Winners will receive between $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

The students' sponsor universities were Vanderbilt University (Edie Duncan), Case Western Reserve University (Andrew Maytin) and University of Chicago (Nora Spadoni). The students will attend their sponsor universities in the fall.

More than 1.6 million students from over 22,000 high schools entered the 2017 National Merit Scholarship competition when they took the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as high school juniors. Last fall, approximately 16,000 Semifinalists were designated on a state-representational basis, in numbers proportional to each state's percentage of the nation's high school graduating seniors. Semifinalists were the highest-scoring program entrants in each state and represented less than one percent of a state's seniors.
