Elizabeth A. Kimmel Named Director of Pupil Services

May 10, 2017 — Elizabeth A. Kimmel, M. Ed., has been named Director of Pupil Services for the Shaker Heights City School District, effective July 1. She succeeds Janice Price, who has served as the Interim Director of Pupil Services since last September.

“We are pleased to have Elizabeth Kimmel join the Shaker team. She comes to us with more than ten years of experience as a Coordinator of Student Services. Her work has included developing and implementing programs to address challenges similar to those we experience here in Shaker,” says Marla Robinson, Shaker Heights City School District Chief of Staff.

Kimmel most recently was the Coordinator of Student Services at Lakewood City Schools, where she was responsible for special education and all related services at the high school, middle school and Lakewood City Academy, a conversion community school. In her leadership role for Response to Intervention and Instruction at the secondary level, she expanded reading intervention programs and math courses. Similarly, she advocated for and assisted in transitioning the Response to Intervention and Instruction model for literacy at the middle school from reading interventions in lieu of grade-level language arts instruction to reading interventions in addition to grade-level language arts instruction. She also provided leadership and guidance in the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act and Operating Standards for Ohio Educational Agencies Serving Children with Disabilities to special education staff at the middle and high school level and to district-wide related services staff.

Prior to joining Lakewood City Schools in 2006, Kimmel was a school psychologist at Buckeye Local Schools in Medina, where she was responsible for evaluations for students of all disability categories at the preschool, elementary and high school level. She conducted Functional Behavioral Assessments and 504 evaluations and developed their corresponding plans, and consulted on IEP development.

Kimmel began her career as a school psychologist at the Tri-County Educational Service Center in Wooster, serving Chippewa, Dalton and North Central Local Schools and the Ashland County Preschool Program.

Kimmel holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Case Western Reserve University and a master’s of education in Educational Psychology from John Carroll University.

"Elizabeth's expertise with expanding intervention programs in reading and math are aligned with our strategic planning goals to recruit high-quality staff and to engage all students in an enriching educational experience that enables them to achieve educational milestones," says Superintendent Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. "We look forward to sharing the knowledge she will bring to the leadership team."
