March 3, 2017 — Mercer Elementary School held its first “Grandparents and Special Friends Day” Friday, March 3, 2017, welcoming over 140 visitors to the school from 9:00-10:30 a.m.
The day began with coffee and refreshments in the Auditorium followed by a presentation by Mercer Principal Lindsay Florence. Students from Larissa Martin's fourth-grade class and Susan Beney and Sarah Mulligan’s kindergarten classes entertained visitors by singing “Three Cheers for Mercer School.” Music Specialist Rachel Luther led the fourth-graders and kindergarteners in the singing of four songs.
The visitors then toured the school, dropping into classrooms to get a glimpse of the typical school day at Mercer.
The idea to host this event was provided by the grandmother of a Mercer student.
Mercer hopes to hold this very successful event annually.
