How do I sign up for conferences? Parents/guardians will receive a letter with instructions to help them sign up online for individual subject conferences. You may schedule up to six conferences per student (with individual teachers, representing six of your student’s classes).
How long is a conference? Each conference is 10 minutes long.
Who attends the conference? Typically, the teacher and the parent(s)/guardian(s) attend the conference. There may be instances where multiple teachers attend a single conference (usually in co-teaching situations). Students may also attend, but it is best to confirm this with individual teachers prior to the conference.
Can siblings be accommodated? Siblings can be accommodated but childcare is not provided.
Where are the conferences held? All conferences are held in the following locations. Conferences are scheduled back-to-back, so having everyone in a central location is necessary:
- Upper Café (window side): Science and Social Studies
- Upper Café (near lunch lines): World Languages, Health, SPED
- Senior Lounge: Math
- Lower Café: English, Theatre, Music, P.E.
What does the teacher talk about? Teachers typically discuss their observations of the student in class. This may include the student's' strengths and weaknesses, academic performance, social interactions, and classroom behavior. The teacher may also discussthe course curriculum, class expectations, methods of communication, technology use, and strategies to support the student.
What kind of questions are typically asked by families? The majority of questions involve grades, after-school conference schedule, tutoring, and Progressbook.
What kind of questions would you like families to ask—things they may like to think about in advance and prepare? Families and teachers have the same goal—they want their students to be successful. It is helpful when families are prepared to have a two-way discussion with teachers in how they can support each other in making the student successful at home and at school.
