Fernway Conference Guide FAQ

How do I sign up for conferences? Parent(s)/guardian(s) are encouraged to sign up for conferences at the Curriculum Nights in September. Those who didnot attend are reminded to sign up via the teacher newsletters.

How long is a conference? About 20 minutes

Who attends the conference? Parents/guardians attend. Teachers will indicate whether the student should also attend.

Can siblings be accommodated? We provide no babysitting for sibling(s).

Where is the conference held? Conferences are held in the classrooms.

What does the teacher talk about? Teachers discuss grade-level progress and set goals for the student..

What kind of questions do parents/guardians typically ask? Parents/guardian(s) want to know what they can do to help with continued success for their child, and if their child is a good citizen in the classroom.

What kind of questions would you like families to ask—things they may like to think about in advance and prepare? Teachers might want to know whether the child has experienced or reacted to any changes in life, such as the death of a loved one or pet. Share anything that the teacher might not know, but would appreciate knowing. Something as small as "my child never eats breakfast,” to "my child spoke no English until he/she was three" is helpful to the teachers. Children's bedtime and eating habits can be shared. Any medical situation should be shared with the teacher and the school nurse.
