Event Groups:

Description:
On August 20 from 5-7 p.m., parents and other community members are invited to meet new Shaker Heights Middle School principal, David Glasner, and new assistant principal, Robert Rea, as well as Miata Hunter, who will continue in her current role as assistant principal. Light refreshments will be served at this informal reception with brief remarks from Glasner at 6 p.m. Students accompanied by an adult are also welcome to attend.

For the past five years, Glasner served as principal of the Urban Assembly Academy of Government and Law, a public high school in New York. He holds a BA and an MA in history from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in secondary school social studies education from Teachers College, Columbia University, as well as administrative certification from the College of Saint Rose.

Glasner was selected from a competitive pool of more than 50 applicants and was recommended by an advisory interview panel made up of teachers, parents, and administrators. The selection criteria were based on extensive input from staff, students, and parents through focus groups, an online survey, and informal gatherings. Glasner and his family will live in Shaker Heights.

Rea, a Shaker resident and parent, was most recently assistant principal at Heritage Middle School in Painesville. A graduate of Geneva College, Rea earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Ursuline College. He began his education career in 1997 and has worked primarily with middle-years students. Rea takes the position formerly held by Douglas Myles, who is now serving as assistant principal at Woodbury Elementary School.

Hunter is a 1992 graduate of Shaker Heights High School and was a mathematics teacher and chair of the mathematics department at the Middle School before assuming the position of assistant principal in 2013. She joined the Shaker faculty in 2004.
