SHHS Students Attend Special 9/11 Assembly

9/11 assemblySeptember 11, 2019— This morning, Shaker Heights High School students from Grades 10-12, several local dignitaries and local representatives from the City of Shaker Heights Police and Fire Departments attended a special assembly coordinated by senior Caleigh Leiken, as part of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum's Anniversary in the Schools Webinar program. The assembly included a video of first-person stories, a Q&A with Megan Jones, a 1997 SHHS graduate who is also the Senior Director of Education at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, and a performance by members of The Cleveland Orchestra.

Caleigh was born on September 11, 2001 in New York City and organized the event to help her classmates better understand the events of that terrible day. Thank you, Caleigh, for your work in bringing this special learning opportunity to your peers.

As Ms. Jones said, "9/11 is a story of tragedy, but it's also a story of incredible humanity."

Caleigh also participated in a FacebookLive interview with Cleveland.com. Watch the interview here.

You may also watch the program video below or on the District's YouTube channel. Please note: a 25-minute video of the events of the day, including first-person accounts, begins approximately 14 minutes into the video. The event concludes with a performance by members of The Cleveland Orchestra.
