October 14, 2019—Congratulations to High School Journalism teacher and advisor to The Shakerite Natalie Sekicky, who was selected for the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award. 

Each year, the university invites freshmen to nominate an educator who has influenced, challenged or helped them along their path toward intellectual growth. The University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award recognizes all teachers who are nominated, highlighting the stories that show education’s power to transform.

This is Ms. Sekicky’s second recent award. In May 2018, Northwestern University honored Ms. Sekicky with a Distinguished Secondary Teacher Award. Ms. Sekicky was nominated by former student Shane McKeon (SHHS ‘14), who graduated from the school's Medill School of Journalism in 2018.
