August 8, 2019—High School Latin/Greek teacher Nora Murphy and seven high school students traveled to the 2019 National Junior Classical League Convention July 26-31 at North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D.
The group was part of the broader Ohio delegation and enjoyed a week of Latin competitions, fellowship and fun. The students participated in academic, athletic, artistic and other competitions as well as service activities with peers from 31 states.
Student highlights included:
Craig Bush, senior: Ohio Junior Classical League North Gubernator, service project leader, placed in Classical Greek and Greek Derivatives, recognized for his Social Media work with Shaker’s club
Max Carroll, junior: Placed in Classical Greek, Traditional and Computer Enhanced Photo and Mosaics
Will Corbin, sophomore: member of Ohio’s 8th place Intermediate Certamen team; placed in Classical Art, Reading Comprehension, Roman Life, Ancient Geography, Greek Life and Literature, Academic Heptathlon, Dramatic Interpretation, Sight Latin and the “Marathon”
Ellen Keefe, sophomore: placed in Reading Comprehension, Classical Greek, Mixed Media and Acrylic/Oil Painting
Matt Schiavone, senior: member of Ohio’s Advanced Certamen team, placed in Classical Greek, Greek Derivatives, Mythology, Reading Comprehension Poetry, Drawn Maps, 100-yard Backstroke, 50-yard Backstroke, 50-yard Butterfly and 50-yard Freestyle
Ryan Shane, sophomore: placed in Latin Literature, Essay and the “Marathon”
Mitchell Stiefel, junior: placed in Computer Photo, Traditional Photo and Mosaics
