Information on Middle School Attendance Calls

February 13, 2019—Beginning April 4, Ohio Public School Districts must be in compliance with House Bill 66, which includes language for “Alianna’s Alert,” named for Alianna DeFreeze, a Cleveland teenager who was abducted and murdered on her way to school in 2017. The legislation requires districts to notify parents/guardians within 120 minutes after the beginning of each school day if a student has an unexcused absence.

The Middle School currently has a system which makes automated morning attendance calls to parents/guardians of students with unexcused absences. We will continue to follow our current practice. However, please note:
  • Beginning February 19, the morning Middle School attendance call and email will be sent at 9:45 a.m. The calls will originate from the Middle School Attendance Office number, which is 216-295-4106. We strongly encourage you to save this number in your smartphone so that your phone recognizes the call.
  • Families of students with unexcused absences will receive an email with this new subject line: Attendance Verification Message.
If you receive a morning attendance call/email and you know that your student has arrived safely at school and is in class, you may respond to the email directly or call the attendance office at 216-295-4106.

Please note: You may check on your student’s daily attendance at any time by logging into your ProgressBook account and clicking on the “Attendance” menu. All excused and unexcused absences are recorded there.

We thank you for your support and partnership in helping us keep all of our students safe.
