Eight Grade Violinist Lizzy Huang Wins Cleveland Pops Competition

January 9, 2018—Congratulations to Shaker Heights Middle School eighth grader and violinist Lizzy Huang, co-winner of the 20th Annual Cleveland Pops Jean L. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship! Lizzy will receive a cash prize and will perform with The Cleveland Pops at Severance Hall on Saturday, February 2. She won the competition playing a the duet Sarasate Duo, Navarra with Alex Zhu, a Solon student and violinist. 

“Lizzy and Alex are both excellent musicians who have tremendous passion for the music,” says Gordon Petitt, Director of Marketing for The Cleveland Pops. “We’re all looking forward to their performance.”

Shaker Heights High School Orchestra teacher Donna Jelen and Middle School Orchestra teacher Nicole Clouser, both members of The Cleveland Pops, also will perform on February 2.
