District Names Eric R. Juli Principal of Shaker Heights High School

Eric JuliMay 10, 2019—The District is pleased to announce that Eric R. Juli has accepted an offer to be the next principal of Shaker Heights High School. Mr. Juli will begin this summer.

Mr. Juli, a Shaker Heights resident, is currently Head of School at the Design Lab Early College High School in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD). He came to CMSD from the Lawrence (Massachusetts) Public Schools, where he served in a variety of administrative capacities, including Director of Secondary Curriculum. Before that, Mr. Juli held teaching positions in Boston, California and New York City.

Please read his resume here.

“I am humbled and honored to be selected as the next principal of Shaker Heights High School,” Mr. Juli said. “I love this community. As a Shaker parent and now as a Shaker principal, I am invested in the success of all our students. I look forward to building relationships across our community as we work together to address student equity, improve student learning, and prepare all students for their futures in our rapidly changing world.”

The father of two Shaker students, Mr. Juli emerged as the strongest candidate of a diverse group of 75 applicants from across the country. While the two finalists from that field were both well received, feedback from staff, students and the community overwhelmingly favored Mr. Juli.

The choice of Mr. Juli culminated a demanding selection process that was broad, rigorous and collaborative. This extensive process included:

  • Focus-group feedback and input from Shaker faculty, staff, students and parents
  • A strong recommendation from an interview panel made up of students, teachers, parents and school administrator
  • A school-site visit and interviews with current CMSD colleagues and students
  • A thorough background check of references, evaluations and employment information
  • A video-taped, public question-and-answer forum (which was later posted on the District website)
  • Additional community feedback via online survey

“Mr. Juli excelled among a strong field of diverse candidates,” said the Interim Superintendent, Dr. Stephen M. Wilkins. “We are excited to welcome Eric Juli as our next high school principal and member of the Shaker team. We are excited for his leadership as we take the high school to new levels of excellence in the academics, arts and athletics matched in the International Baccalaureate framework.”

In the coming weeks, Mr. Juli will work with Interim Principal Dr. David Glasner on a high-school leadership transition plan for the 2019-2020 school year.

“Mr. Juli’s long career in educational leadership makes him the ideal choice for principal of Shaker Heights High School,” Dr. Glasner said. “He is a dynamic leader and we are thrilled that he will be serving as our next high school principal.”
