August 2018 Newsletter: District Team Attends International Baccalaureate Global Conference in San Diego

A team of Shaker Schools International Baccalaureate coordinators and two Instructional Coaches joined Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Terri Breeden and Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction David Glasner at the IB Global Conference in San Diego July 26-29. More than 2,000 educators from all over the world attended the conference.

Instructional coaches Jocelyn Dietz and Ben Lehman were invited to present at the conference. Their presentation, “The ABC’s of the QFT and SOLE: Frameworks for developing student questions into action” shared classroom questioning strategies Shaker teachers use to promote inquiry-based learning across our District.

According to Mr. Glasner, the District had three goals in sending our contingent of IB professionals to the conference: to participate in the advancement, improvement and refinement of our IB programme; to learn how best to continue with the IB framework; and to continue to build Shaker’s IB support team.

“It’s critical that we know about changes in IB curriculum and assessments,” said Mr. Glasner. “This was a really powerful opportunity for our coordinators and for members of our Curriculum and Instructional team. We learned a lot of good information that will enable us to better support our schools and continue to provide a vertically aligned IB continuum.”
