Mr. Nathaniel H. Reese, Jr. Named Minority Achievement Committee Scholar Advisor

September 14, 2018—The Office of the Chief of Staff announces that Nathaniel H. Reese, Jr. has been named Minority Achievement Committee (MAC) Scholar Advisor. Mr. Reese succeeds Mary Lynne McGovern, who helped found the program more than 25 years ago. Today, the MAC Scholar program supports academic achievement for the District’s African-American students.

In this role, Mr. Reese will lead the High School MAC Scholars Program for male students, serve as the District leader for the MAC scholar programs in all of the schools and create and lead a Summer MAC Program to begin in 2019. Mr. Reese is a well-known Shaker Heights Schools teacher: since 1997, he has taught sixth-grade math and science at Woodbury Elementary School.

“Mrs. McGovern’s professional and personal dedication to the MAC Scholars program was remarkable,” says Dr. Marla J. Robinson, Chief of Staff. “Her retirement presented us with an opportunity to broaden the scope of the position, as the MAC Scholars program had grown quite a lot under her leadership. We’re fortunate to have Mr. Reese step into this new role—his commitment to helping all students succeed combined with his experience as the coordinator for Woodbury MAC Scholars and Character in Action makes him the ideal choice for the position.”

Mr. Reese earned his Bachelor’s degree in rhetoric and communication and his Master’s in teaching from Kent State University. He received his administrative license from Cleveland State University.
