Rising Senior Sophie Calabrese Wins Gold at CanAmMex International Regatta

July 16, 2018—Shaker Heights High School Crew senior co-captain Sophie Calabrese and her Team USA teammates won the women’s quadruple sculls event at the 18th Annual CanAmMex International Regatta in Mexico City on Saturday, July 14. Calabrese’s boat edged the Mexican quad by 2.56 seconds with Canada finishing third, eight seconds behind the American crew. Saturday’s victory marked the first time in the history of the CanAmMex that the United States has won the women’s quad event.

The win by Calabrese and her crew helped Team US win the overall points championship for the CanAmMex Regatta.

Calabrese is coming off a great spring season with the Shaker Varsity Crew where she won the single sculls at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championship and with Shaker teammates Natalia Miklos,’18, Jenna Cahn,’19, and Ceci Zagara, ‘20 also won gold the Women’s Junior Four at the Midwest Championships and progressed to the semi-finals of the National Scholastic Rowing Championships.
