November 2nd Message from the Interim Superintendent

Dear Shaker Heights Schools Families and District Staff:

The past month has been challenging for our High School community—for our students, our student-athletes, our staff and our families. We understand and share your concerns as well as your desire for resolution and a clear, positive path forward.

Today, I met with our school principals, District leadership and the High School faculty. My message to them was simple and clear: take care of yourself, take care of each other and take care of our school community. As stewards of our students’ education, we must conduct ourselves as professionals at all times and we must always act in the best interest of our students. Anything less is unacceptable.

We are fortunate that Dr. David Glasner, a seasoned educator who has served as principal of both a high school and a middle school, has agreed to serve as Substitute Principal of Shaker Heights High School. Dr. Glasner will ensure that school operations continue smoothly, and you will see him at events such as Tour Your Schools, performances and athletic contests. He will be meeting soon with the PTO as well as student leaders, and he will be available to handle any questions or concerns you may have.

To be clear, our schools are still strong. However, the District is not immune to challenges—and when they occur, we must follow clearly defined processes and procedures before taking any necessary corrective action. But we are a Shaker community and we will come through this as we always have: together and for the better.

We want to hear your concerns and will continue to share any information that we can. To that end, you are invited to attend a community meeting from 6:30-7:30 p.m., next Thursday, November 8 in the High School Large Auditorium.

Here at the District, we hold ourselves accountable for the high-quality education of each student and for ensuring that we maintain the standard of excellence that makes us Shaker. Let’s move forward through this time together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Stephen M. Wilkins
Interim Superintendent
