Need a Pre-K Next Fall? Check Out Shaker's First Class

The Shaker Heights City School District is proud to launch Shaker’s First Class, a two-year preschool program that will be housed at Mercer and Onaway elementary schools but will serve students from all portions of our district.

The program will follow the guidelines, framework and philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) as well as Ohio Early Learning Standards. Shaker’s First Class educational program will also achieve a state Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) 5-star rating by providing the highest quality early childhood curriculum, employing outstanding educators and seeking partnerships with families to help them understand and participate effectively in the early learning process. Family Connections and SPARK Ohio will also provide support and funding.

Enrollment requirements for the two-year program are:

  • Child must be age 3 by September 30, 2016
  • Child must be toilet-trained
  • Families must commit to the program for the two-year duration
  • Parents must commit to home visits by a parent partner
  • Participation in family field trips, where families and students will experience local outings together

Families who are selected through the enrollment process must provide a non-refundable down payment of $200 to secure one of the 32 spots (16 per building). Tuition will be $7,000 per school year for a five-day, full-day experience from 9:15 a.m. – 3:25 p.m. Need-based scholarships will be available through private donors and foundations.

The District cannot provide transportation or after care for students younger than kindergarten.
