Message Regarding Fire at Shaker Heights High School

May 11, 2018—Congratulations and thank you to our students, teachers, administrators and staff, for their response today to an electrical fire at Shaker Heights High School. A student and a test proctor both spotted smoke coming from a first-floor office and alerted administrators to the fire. Administrators ordered the evacuation of the building, and teachers and staff worked together to ensure that all students and staff were safe and secure. Tomorrow, a contractor will be at the school to clean classrooms and get rid of the odors caused by smoke.

The Shaker Heights Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, the District will evaluate and refine its evacuation procedures, and will relocate classes as necessary in preparation for the return of students Monday morning. The High School will be secure over the weekend, and students who left campus to return home today will be allowed to retrieve their belongings Monday morning.
