SHHS World Languages Dept. Names Polyglot Award Winners

May 9, 2018—The High School World Language Department named its Polyglot Award winners. The Polyglot Awards were created to recognize all students who succeed in studying multiple languages at the High School and achieve a designated level of accomplishment in those languages.

Gautam Apte: Latin, Greek, Spanish
Jacob Connell: Chinese, Spanish
Rachel Podl: Spanish, French, German
Joe Schmidt: Latin, Spanish
Julia Shin: Latin, Greek, French
Ben Stager: Spanish, German
Allison Stewart: Latin, German
Jason Suh: Latin, Greek, Spanish
Ben Wilson: Latin, Spanish

To be eligible for the award, students must earn a B or better in all World Language classes and have taken languages at Shaker Heights High School or with a Shaker Heights High School Teacher/Tutor. Requirements include:  

Two languages

  • First language completed 5th year (4th for German, Chinese or Greek)
  • Second language completed 4 years

Three Languages

  • First language completed 4 years
  • Second and third languages completed 3 years each OR
  • First language completed 5 years
  • Second and third languages completed 2 years each
