Woodbury & Middle School Model UN Delegates Excel at OMUN Conference

March 15, 2018—Congratulations to the 125 Woodbury and Shaker Heights Middle School students who represented 17 countries at the Ohio Leadership Institute’s Junior Ohio Model UN conference, Sunday, March 11 through Tuesday, March 13. OMUN is a three-day global education simulation experience that allows students in grades 6-12 to learn about the complete operations of the United Nations and its role as the world’s largest international peacekeeping and humanitarian organization. More than 1,200 students from across the state of Ohio competed in the conference which emphasizes leadership development and global-mindedness. The following students competed and earned recognition at the Ohio Model United Nations conference:

Additionally, the nation of Saudi Arabia (Evelyn Lewicki, Shay McDermott, Eva Xiao, Nichele Abeyesundere, Katie Fraser, & Mia Compton-Engle) held a bake sale that raised several hundred dollars in support of the International Outreach program: I-OPEN (International Outreach Program for Education in Nigeria).

Shaker Heights High School students Paul Huang and Zach Lehner served as officers at the event. Paul was an Assistant Secretary General and Zach was the Vice President of the General Assembly.
