Middle School Principal David Glasner Named Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction

March 21, 2018—David Glasner, principal at Shaker Heights Middle School since July 2014, has been named Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction for the Shaker Heights City School District, effective July 1, 2018. 

The District will immediately conduct a nationwide search for Mr. Glasner’s successor that will include public surveys, focus groups and interviews.

In his new position as Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction, Mr. Glasner will oversee the development of a unified curriculum that provides continuity of instruction, aligns with state academic content standards, and leverages the benefits of the International Baccalaureate Programme for all students in grades PreK-12. He will work collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction to supervise and evaluate principals. He will also serve as a liaison with other departments to ensure the curriculum is embedded in all initiatives throughout the District.

Mr. Glasner brings to his new role a varied background in public education. Before coming to Shaker, Mr. Glasner served as principal of the Urban Assembly Academy of Government and Law, a public high school in New York. He began his career as a teacher at the Manhattan Center for Science and Math, a rigorous public school that emphasizes science and math instruction. He holds a B.A. and an M.A. in history from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in secondary school social studies education from Teachers College, Columbia University, as well as administrative certification from the College of Saint Rose. Mr. Glasner is pursuing a doctorate at Cleveland State University, where his research focuses on how tracking students in mathematics impacts student achievement.

Hutchings, Jr., Superintendent of Schools. “In his new position, he will have an opportunity to make an impact on students at every academic level in Shaker Heights Schools.”

The search timeline for the next principal of Shaker Heights Middle School is as follows:

  • March 23-April 6: Middle School families and staff will be asked to participate in an online survey identifying the attributes of the next principal.

  • March 28: Families, staff and students will participate in focus groups with the goal of developing a leadership profile for the principal position.

    • Students: 2 to 3 p.m.

    • Staff: 3 to 3:45 p.m.

    • MS Parents and Woodbury Parents:  6 to 7 p.m.

  • April 13: The leadership profile will be posted no later than this date.

  • April 16-20: The District will screen applicants and identify 3-5 candidates.

  • April 23-27: Candidates will be interviewed and two finalists will be identified.

  • April 30 & May 1: The public will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of two finalists.

  • Week of May 8: A new Middle School principal will be selected.
