Girls Varsity Cross Country finishes 7th place at State Meet

The Shaker Heights Girls’ Cross Country Team was ranked 13th heading into the state championships, but they left with a seventh place finish, their second consecutive season in the top ten.

Despite being ranked behind a number of Columbus schools the Raiders swept central Ohio and avenged earlier season losses to Gahanna Lincoln, Twinsburg and St. Joseph’s Academy among others. Leading the way was Sophie Carrier, who improved on her own school record, finishing in 18:10. Her twelfth place finish was the highest in school history. Also earning All-Ohio for the second time was Mimi Reimers, who completed the final cross country race of her storied career in 18:36. The heroics certainly did not stop there as Alexa Jankowsky ran a strong race as one of the top third runners in Ohio, and both Elise LaFramboise and Sydney Blaszak cracked 20 minutes for the first time, running 19:44 and 19:59 respectively. Both Ally Nordstrom and Tessa Shlonsky completed the running for the day, putting a cap on the most successful season the team has ever seen. It was a fitting end for the seniors as they put an exclamation point on a four year career that has established Shaker as one of the top programs in the state. They will be missed!

Congratulations ladies!
