Class of 2016 MAC Sister Scholars Commended

Celebrating their 19th year, the MAC Sister Scholars held their annual awards ceremony on Monday, May 16, at Shaker Heights High School.

Keynote speaker Courtney Ottrix, a 2004 Shaker Heights graduate, encouraged the MAC Sisters and the MAC Sister Scholars to embrace life’s challenges. She beamed with pride when she shared her Shaker experience and attributed her accomplishments to the experiences and exposure she received while in the Shaker Heights Schools. Courtney currently serves as the Marketing Manager for Global Cleveland, a civic organization whose mission is to increase the population in Greater Cleveland by attracting newcomers and connecting them to the region’s resources.

During the ceremony, newly selected MAC Sister Scholars were inducted into the program for the 2016 – 2017 school year. The class of sixteen inductees included sophomores and juniors that have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0, have a history of academic excellence, and demonstrate leadership skills inside and outside of the classroom.

The goal of the MAC Sister Scholars program is to embrace a sisterhood that promotes and encourages scholarship, achievement, leadership and motivation. The MAC Sister Scholars meet monthly with more than 90 MAC Sister Mentees to help achieve this goal.

The graduating class of 2016 MAC Sister Scholars leaves a legacy of excellence in academics, extra-curricular activities and civic engagement.
