More Than 220 8th Graders Awarded for Academics

Shaker Heights Middle School honored more than 220 students for their academic achievements during the Eighth Grade Academic Awards on Wednesday, May 25.

Ninety-three students were awarded the Principal's Achievement Award for obtaining between a 3.0 and 3.4999 CGPA. Scholarship Honor Key Awards went to 130 students with CGPAs between 3.5 and 4.0.

Honoree Patrick Wise welcomed those in attendance and Middle School health teacher Mrs. Beth Casey spoke, giving the rising ninth graders her tips for success. They included:

  • Control - Do not worry about things that are out of your control.
  • Comfort zone - Challenge yourself to get out of yours once in awhile.
  • Challenges - Life is not easy. You will be presented with many challenges ... some of you more than others.
  • Character - Character is who you are when no one is looking.
  • Choices - Make good choices. Trust your instincts.
  • Confidence - "Don't try to fit in when you were born to stand out."
The eighth-grade orchestra also performed Keith Sharp's Eureka! under the direction of Mrs. Lise McDonough.
