Shaker's Latin Club Triumphs in Texas

Twenty-two Shaker Heights High School students, one teacher and one parent traveled to Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas for the 62nd National Junior Classical League Latin Convention. Approximately 1800 students and adults worked hard and enjoyed a week of classical competition in the July heat of Texas.

The 2015 Shaker Heights delegation consisted of Gautam Apte, Sameer Apte, Hannah Barrett, Rachel Brunot, Andrew Frye, Amelia Gingras, Brian Johnson, Vishnu Kasturi, Sam Katz, Matthew McMillan, Meredith Modlin, Jordan Pazol, Olivia Proe, Ben Robertson, Gabe Sekeres, Marjorie Shaw, Julia Shin, Anav Sood, Jason Suh, Narayan Sundararajan, Sriram Sundararajan, Jocelyn Ting, Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Robertson.

The Ohio Upper Level Certamen Team placed second. Shaker students on the team included Sameer Apte, Matthew McMillan and Ben Robertson. 

Sameer Apte was voted MVP of Upper Certamen by the adult judges in the competition.

Hannah Barrett was elected National Junior Classical League Historian for 2015-16. Hannah will help plan and run the convention next summer at Indiana University. Shaker has the distinction of having two students in a row on the National Board. Hannah follows Narayan Sundararajan (SHHS '15) who completed his term as National 2nd Vice President.
