Shaker Captures Top Spots at NHD

Seventeen students from the High School and Woodbury recently competed in the National History Day Competition at the University of Maryland, College Park. Shaker's results are as follows:

Senior Group Exhibit
1st Place: Watson Moore, Sam Katz, Brian Johnson
Project Title: “Them Damned Pictures: The Legendary Cartoons of Thomas Nast”
(Shaker's first place exhibitors are National Endowment for the Humanities Gold Medal Winners, which includes a $1,000 cash prize.)

Senior Group Documentary
5th Place: Zach Brown, Nat Crowley, Will Raddock, Mathieu Girard
Project Title: “Poverty to Power: The Leadership and Legacy of Carl B. Stokes”
(This group also won Outstanding Entry for the Senior Division from the State of Ohio.)

Junior Group Documentary (6-8th Grade)
5th Place: Madeline Price (with Kaisal Shah of Hathaway Brown School)
Project Title: “The Impact of Children’s Television: The Leadership and Legacy of Joan Ganz Cooney”
(This group also won Outstanding Entry for the Junior Division from the State of Ohio.)

Sarah Davis, Roy Isaacs and Tim Mitchell from the High School as well as Heather Pincoe from Woodbury helped the students prepare for the competition.
