This year’s competition for scholarships began when more than 1.5 million juniors in over 22,000 high schools took the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Last fall it was announced that Shaker had 15 National Merit Semifinalists, 14 National Merit Commended Students, one National Achievement Semifinalist, and two National Achievement Commended Students.

Semifinalists in both competitions nationwide meeting high academic standards and other requirements had the opportunity to advance to the Finalist level of competition. Scholarship winners were selected from among the Finalists.
